Mia Laenen
Born: May 20, 1950 – Mol
Mia's colorful paintings depict abstract, almost human-like figures. At times, they cautiously seek each other's presence, while at other times, they seem estranged from one another. Mia enhances this feeling by playing with lines, stripes, and smudges. Rarely is a line straight or complete, and the smudges transition softly into each other in some areas, while in others, the shift is abrupt.
Mia’s sculptures also stimulate the viewer’s imagination. Whether crafted in bronze or marble, in white or black… Their shapes sometimes appear elegant, while at other times, they are more rugged. Each time, a figure seems to emerge… only to transform into another shape again.
